UST ChemE hosted ‘Preventive Controls for Human Food Workshop’

The UST Department of Chemical Engineering in partnership with UST Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences and Philippine-American Educational Foundation through the Fulbright Specialist Program conducted the ‘Preventive Controls for Human Food certification Workshop last June 21-22, 2018 at Brentwood Suites, Quezon City, Philippines. The aim of the workshop was to train faculty members from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) on Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) Preventive Controls on Human Foods. The program is a three-day workshop, which was facilitated by a qualified lead instructor, Prof. Brian A. Nummer, Ph.D. of Utah State University, covering the standardized curriculum recognized by the United States Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) offered by the Food Safety Preventive Controls Alliance (FSPCA). At the end of the workshop, participants were certified as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).

The workshop was funded by the Continuing Professional Education – Teaching in Higher Education (CPE-THE) Grant from the K to 12 Transition Project Management Unit of the Commission on Higher Education with Prof. Philipina A. Marcelo, Ph.D. as the Project Proponent. The wrokshop was participated by 53 faculty members and industry practitioners from different universities and institutions.
